Wetlands
Created in the millennium year this thirty-five acre wetlands celebrated the life of my husband, the late Malcolm McConnell. The eight acre lake is seen from many parts of the garden and in its own way links the garden to the sea. It has become home to many native and visiting wild-fowl.
There is an hour long walking route from the garden, leading around the lake and back up through an area of native bush.
We have already planted fifteen thousand indigenous species to enhance the area and provide the necessary cover for nesting birds. It is wonderfully cared for by David Johnstone who not only organized the digging and creating of it, but helped plant the original valleys of trees over twenty years ago.
